About us: The plan

Priory Park is a public park of 58 ha, which is listed Grade II on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest, as well as containing the Grade I listed Priory building (currently occupied by Reigate Priory School).

The park forms a green wedge through the heart of Reigate, and was bequeathed to the Council in the 1920's. It is the site of a mediaeval priory, and over the centuries has seen the development of the gardens surrounding the Priory building and the park itself, from C12 deer park to the formal gardens of the C19 and C20.

the park

  • The aim of the plans is to reinstate the main elements of the C18 landscape, and enhance the primary features of the Victorian and Edwardian additions to the park.
  • A new pavilion will be built (the design was agreed last year)
  • The geometry of the paths and open spaces will be simplified, to provide a clear setting for the new pavilion.
  • A new play area will be installed, with a modern water play element, and facilities for all weather play and skate boarding will be provided.
  • The lake will be improved and managed
  • A management plan will be agreed which will safeguard the future of the park
